Machinery manufacturer says hemp is now mainstream in denim

Textile finishing technology provider Montforts said recently that hemp had moved into the denim mainstream.

In recent comments, the Mönchengladbach-based company’s head of denim, Hans Wroblowski, said that more denim producers were becoming convinced of the environmental appeal of hemp because it is easy to grow and requires less water than cotton, no fertiliser, no herbicide and no chemicals.

He said the liberalisation of hemp’s cultivation in many parts of the world had also led to an increase in interest in using hemp in denim. “We have the technologies and know-how to help our customers to fully maximise their hemp denims at all post-weaving stages of production,” he added.
