Accolade for Greek spinning mill
Spinning mill Varvaressos has achieved a gold rating at the Greek Export Awards for its Supreme Green Cotton yarn.
Prominent brands such as Diesel, Champ Blanc and Muntagnard have worked with the Greek company to introduce Supreme Green Cotton to their ranges. The gold rating at the awards will bring recognition for the yarn company in its home country.
Supreme Green Cotton are yarns that Varvaressos makes from cotton grown by farmers who use a satellite-controlled irrigation system. This system allows savings of up to 40% in water consumption, Varvaressos has said. An app that collects information on the weather and moisture conditions in each field allows the farmers to monitor their cotton fields in real time.
Managing director, Argirios Sarridis, said the company was “excited and proud” to have won the accolade. “We are on the right path,” he said. “Responsibility is the right path.”
