Feature: Spinnova’s disruptive dyeing idea
Finnish cellulose fibre company Spinnova has worked with chemicals group Kemira to develop an indigo dyed fibre that the company says has the potential to have a positive impact on the denim industry.

Spinnova, launched as a spin-off from the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in 2014, turns wood fibres into yarn “without complex chemical processes”.

Dr Shahriare Mahmood, Spinnova’s sustainability director, said: “Manufacturers will go straight to weaving with the dyed Spinnova warp yarn, completely skipping the indigo dyeing process.”
