USDA revises US cotton crop forecast upwards
The US Department of Agriculture has included in its most recent report about cotton a projection for global production of 118.4 million bales for the 2022-2023 season. This represented a decline of 1.4 million bales compared to earlier predictions.
It said ongoing flooding in Pakistan, which began in June and has so far caused close to 1,500 fatalities, had lowered cotton-crop expectations by 700,000 bales to 5.5 million.
On home soil, it increased its estimate for the US crop by 1.3 million bales, setting it at 13.8 million, because of “a large upward revision in planted acreage”.
It predicted increases in Australia, China and Turkey, but reductions in Togo and Uzbekistan.
