It explained the 'Cas' is SAC reversed, while CA refers to 'collective action' and 'scale' references scaled ambitions.
Co-founder Rick Ridgeway will celebrate the changes at an event in London on February 27.
He said: “As Cascale evolves to address the needs of a broader scope of consumer goods beyond apparel and footwear, I’m proud to celebrate this new vision of an organisation that is close to my heart.”
Krishna Manda, Cascale vice-chair and vice president of corporate sustainability at Lenzing Group, said: “Just as we’ve emphasised before, no single player can drive this alone. We are thrilled to continue supporting the organisation in its next phase of development, building on the revised strategic plan.
In 2009, Walmart and Patagonia launched the SAC to develop a common approach to measuring sustainability. In 2010, the SAC launched the Higg Index suite of tools with the aim of improving social and environmental impact of the textile, apparel and footwear industry.
Last May, the Higg Index changed its name to Worldly. It has not been without criticism: in 2020, the leather industry asked to suspend leather’s score leather, saying “inappropriate methodologies and out-of-date, unrepresentative, inaccurate and incomplete data” had led to a disproportionately high score. In October 2022, the Dutch and the Norwegian consumer authorities presented several objections to Higg.
