Regenerative cotton project progress pleases Maritas

Turkish denim mill Maritas’s work on a regenerative cotton project with Harran and Gaziantep universities is ongoing.

It collected the project’s first cotton harvest in October but has since moved into a second phase, focusing on improvements in soil health.

Maritas has said that recent checks on lentils it is growing as part of a crop rotation plan are showing promising signs of success. It found that roots of the lentils are longer and deeper than in previous years.

The conclusion that the denim mill and its university partners have drawn from this is that it will help future cotton crops thanks to a high level of mineral enrichment of the soil.
