Scotch & Soda is back on Carnaby Street
The famed brand, which was acquired out of bankruptcy by Bluestar Alliance this time last year, has opened a new store on Carnaby Street in London, in a partnership with Victor Barbosa, who heads the South African business of the company and has worked closely with the brand for 13 years.

Bluestar Alliance acquired some of the assets of the Amsterdam-based lifestyle brand. Founded in 2006 by Joseph Gabbay and Ralph Gindi in 2006 it has a diverse portfolio of consumer brands, with the likes of Hurley, Elie Tahari, Brookstone, Justice, bebe and Limited Too. It works with over 400 licensees and operates over 250 stores worldwide, with retail sales estimated to be $7.5 billion.

On mainland Europe, however, stores are closing as earlier this month, S&S Europe, the company in charge of the brand’s operations in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg, filed for bankruptcy again, announced news agency Belga. There are 92 Scotch & Soda stores in Europe and a staff of some 700. “The shops in Luxembourg and Belgium will close for good. In Austria, discussions are underway with an interested party about a possible relaunch. In Germany, there is also a party interested in taking over some of the shops,” bankruptcy curator Michel Moeijes told the Luxemburg Times.
