New agreement between ICA and Supima
The International Cotton Association (ICA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with non-profit trade association Supima. The two organisations said they wanted to foster co-operation.
ICA is a membership organisation with 650 members. Most cotton trading throughout the world takes place under ICA rules and bylaws. For its part, Supima represents growers of the extra-long staple fibre cotton of the same name that farmers in California, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico produce.
This memorandum of understanding will help the two organisations work more closely together on shared goals, which training and visit programmes, information exchanges and testing and quality issues.
Similar agreements are also in place between ICA and Better Cotton, the China Cotton Industry Association, China National Cotton Exchange, Cotton Association of India, Aid by Trade Foundation with its Cotton Made in Africa initiative, and with the International Textile Manufacturers Federation.
ICA president, Kim Hanna, said: “I am pleased that we can add Supima to the ICA’s growing list of alliances. This latest addition will strengthen the relationships between organisations through increased communication and collaboration, which will ultimately help make trading safer.”
