Marimekko makes its mark on denim
Marimekko’s distinctive flat floral print motifs now adorn a range of jeans. The Finnish brand has released its very first denim range, Maridenim, first presented at the Copenhagen Fashion Week earlier this year for the Fall/Winter 2024 show, and updated for Spring/Summer 2025 last week (pictured). It features the well-known Unikko pattern Maija Isola made 60 years ago. The Unikko flowers are laser-etched.

Marimekko has chosen to follow the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Jeans Redesign guidelines for its jeans It has chosen a 100% cotton denim fabric combining 80% organic cotton with 20% recycled cotton, and includes minimal use of hardware (no rivets).

“When we first started to think about denim, it felt as the most natural continuity to our existing lifestyle assortment – a hardworking wardrobe staple that can be dressed up with heels, mixed with stripes, tucked in with a shirt, or layered with prints. Marimekko Maridenim provides us with a fresh canvas for creativity, which only grows better with time,” commented Emmakaisa Kirves, Marimekko’s design director for ready-to-wear and accessories.
