Stella McCartney features pollution-absorbing denims

07/10/2025
The British designer showed her collection for Spring-Summer 2026 in Paris this week, introducing, as she often does, innovative textile technologies. In this collection, a series of denim fabrics were treated with a pollution-capturing finish developed by PureTech. The Barcelona-based innovation lab has developed a textile additive derived from a natural material that captures carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) through photocatalysis.

The company explained that through a “natural chemical reaction” the pollutants are converted into carbonates and harmless nitrates, described as stable byproducts that are released in tiny mineral particles and gradually shed from the surface through friction.

“When we first began exploring advanced textiles through the competition Reshape nearly a decade ago, the aim was to integrate design, material technology, and advanced manufacturing into the industry. We believed in design not just as a matter of aesthetics, but as a tool for reshaping material intent, environmental awareness, and technology integration,” said Aldo Sollazzo, CEO of the company founded in 2017, in a LinkedIn post. The launch by Stella McCartney “is a celebration of our long-held vision finally coming to life”.
