Brazil: jeans factory struck by tragedy
The authorities in the Brazilian state of São Paulo have confirmed that 42 people died in a recent road traffic accident near the town of Taguaí and that the majority of the victims were workers at a jeans factory.
A bus carrying workers to a factory run by Stattus Jeans in Taguaí crashed into a lorry outside the town, which is 350 kilometres west of the city of São Paulo.
Around 50 employees of the jeans manufacturer were travelling by bus to the factory from their homes in the town of Itaí. The bus was involved in a collision with a lorry, resulting in the fatalities.
Stattus Jeans issued a statement to say it had closed the Taguaí factory for three days of official mourning. It added that it was taking all the steps it could to support victims’ families.
