Linen lets Lyon company make a comeback

Lyon-based clothing company Le Gaulois has forged success by using linen to make jeans, which it sells online. Its made-in-France cachet is allowing it to plan an expansion of its range into jackets, also made from linen denim.
It is a family-owned company, run now by Jean-Charles Tchakirian. It was set up in 1974, but closed its doors in 2004 in the face of intense overseas competition.
Five years after that, though, Mr Tchakirian decided to reopen and to focus on clothing made in France using French materials.
The linen and 95% of all the materials in the garments come from France. Only the rivets, the thread and the buttons are from elsewhere.
