Ian Berry denim art show to reopen

Museum Rijswijk, a Dutch museum currently showing work by British artist Ian Berry, who makes installation and photorealistic collage art out of old and discarded denim jeans, is set to reopen on January 19, when the Netherlands re-emerges from its strictest coronavirus-era national lockdown yet (imposed on December 15, 2020).
The latest in a string of European and North American exhibits of Mr Berry’s artwork, the exhibition, titled “Splendid Isolation”, first opened at Museum Rijswijk in early December 2020 and will run until April 5, 2021, giving visitors a chance to view the show in person post-lockdown.
“Splendid Isolation”, the artist’s first solo exhibition in the Netherlands, presents Mr Berry’s largest exhibition of works to date and is accompanied by a 160-page catalogue of the same name.
Artworks featured in the exhibition include the artist’s animated denim projection, Clapping Project, plus his Behind Closed Doors photography initiative, which Mr Berry instigated following the first UK covid-19 lockdown.
A highlight for visitors who were able to squeeze in a visit to the exhibition before lockdown included an installation in the museum’s main hall which shows the artist’s covid-19 era living room recreated in Cone Denim-made denim (pictured).
Museum Rijswijk is currently offering timed tickets for the exhibition, scheduled to reopen on January 19, via its website.
