Since its founding in 2010, it has invested in a wide array of textile and fashion innovation start-ups. These include AlgiKnit, Mango Materials, Natural Fiber Welding, Protein Evolution, and Bolt. Its other fields of investment are energy, health and finance.
The name, Collab SOS, was chosen, the founders wrote on the blog post announcing the launch, “because it represents the urgency needed to address this moment”. It is an extension of its investments in companies seeking to develop a regenerative and more sustainable economy. “These investments reflect our interest in organisations with specific methodologies, such as synthetic biology and precision fermentation, driving impact in creative new ways.”
The company has stated that Collab SOS will be investing “in Series A and Series B companies fuelling a more sustainable economy across materials, ingredients, energy, and supply chains.” UK designer Stella McCartney is a partner.
