Natural dyes drive individuality, Brazilian developer claims

Textile chemicals group Fratelli Ricci Brasil has launched a new range of dyes that it says can offer “undeniable environmental benefits” to mills.

Its new Ricodyes range consists of products that are 100% natural and are effective at colder temperatures on cellulosic or polyamide fibres.

In recent comments to specialist media in Brazil, company director Eduardo Junger said the new range was a response to “urgent demand from the market for products that will allow the textile value chain to move towards sustainability and circularity”.

Mr Junger explained that the products permit important energy savings in dyeing cycles by reducing the need for heat and also by taking less time. He said mills will be able to carry out dyeing in one-third of the time compared to conventional methods using synthetic dyes.

He also said the finished effect of the dyes would vary from garment to garment, in keeping with what normally happens with natural products. He said that in the recent past clothing brands might have turned their noses up at this, but that in a market in which the fast fashion phenomenon had reduced originality, different looks were exactly what consumers were looking for.
