Women in leadership in cotton farming bring benefits
A recent study that sustainable cotton initiative Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) carried out has shown the benefits that can come from women taking lead roles in cotton farming. But, in spite of this, CmiA said female farmers “continue to face systemic disadvantages”.
According to the study, women who take leadership positions in cotton farming serve as role models, offering other female farmers someone to turn to.
They frequently establish co-operatives together with other women to increase their autonomy and their financial independence by creating new sources of income.
