C&A ceases production at FIT factory

Clothing group C&A has confirmed that it will cease production at its FIT factory in Mönchengladbach.
Reports in German media in mid-February said the facility, which began operating in 2022, was closing. C&A has now confirmed that this is accurate.
In a statement, the company said the idea behind FIT (Factory for Innovation in Textiles) was to explore new, sustainable production methods and to determine whether these could work in Europe, lowering production costs while increasing volumes.
“After a careful review of the results,” the statement continued, “we have decided to discontinue the FIT factory operations. The initiative did not meet the expectations set out in the original business case. While this was a difficult decision, testing new approaches is a fundamental part of how we operate. We constantly explore new opportunities, and while some trials may not succeed, they always provide valuable insights for future initiatives.”
It said it remained committed to continuous improvement in all aspects of its operations and would support all affected employees.
