Efficiency in denim processing
Italian machinery maker Biancalani has optimised its Aquaria platform to address issues specific to the denim industry. The washing and finishing device processes fabrics in open-width and continuously and uses the company’s Airo concept that moves textiles through the device using air.

The Prato-based company has improved upon two specific programmes for denim fabrics Aquafix and Aquastone. In addition to cleaning and locking in colour, it is now possible to control shrinkage as well. The company claims that the stabilising process is “simply remarkable” as it can reduce shrinkage in the warp and weft from 15-20% to 3-4%.

Aquastone addresses the issue of uniformity and reproducibility in jeans manufacturing. This pre-stonewashing process is said to be less harsh on the fabric, thus reducing time, chemicals and energy needed for further finishing operations.
