Indigo Council plays its part
In addition to mills in Pakistan, Turkey, Italy and China, a group called the Indigo Council worked with non-profit group Transformers Foundation on its new report on water consumption.
The Indigo Council is a global working group first convened by the Transformers Foundation in 2024. Its purpose is to develop science-based benchmarks for key processes in denim production, starting with indigo dyeing.
The Indigo Council includes a coalition of senior figures from across the denim supply chain. Companies represented include denim mills, machinery manufacturers, chemical suppliers and independent technical advisors.
Transformers Foundation has said the new paper on water consumption during indigo dyeing is just the start for the Indigo Council, adding that the group is also exploring future benchmarks for wastewater treatment, indigo recycling, finishing and lower-impact dyeing technologies.
