Industry kudos for Archroma’s Denim Halo
The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) has awarded Archroma its 2025 Sustainability & Innovation Award for Denim Halo, a pretreatment and dyeing process the chemicals company first introduced last year. The innovative process makes it possible to create coveted distressed effects along with significant water and energy savings.

The new solution is based on a viscosity-modifying agent (Dirsol RD) combined with a patented pretreatment, which, along with Archroma’s dyestuffs for denim, lead to superficial dyeing with reduced water and energy usage. The laser-friendly denim fabrics won’t require potassium permanganate or manual scraping to achieve the desired distressed effects.

Among its many advantages, Archroma said that Denim Halo reduces caustic soda consumption in sulfur mercerising, and lightens the consequential washing cycle. Other technical advantages include reduced yarn shrinkage and improved garment tensile strength, especially on black denim.

Archroma’s One Way impact calculator has found that the process results in water savings of 40-56%, energy reductions of 30-36%, and CO2 emission cuts of 33-34% depending on the dye formulation used.
