CLASS seminars offer chances to collaborate

21/04/2020

Italy-based textiles body CLASS is launching a series of virtual talks and presentations to mark EarthDay and Fashion Revolution Week.

Giusy Bettoni, CLASS CEO, said: “Smart Voices is about being united while sharing knowledge, innovation, technology and ideas. Even if in lockdown, it is fundamental not to compromise the collaborative spirit nor to deprioritise sustainability.”

On April 22 at 4pm (Europe time), materials manager Luca Olivini will unveil FUTURE DEVICES, a family of digital tools. One example, Immaterial Reality, can create “responsive digital fabrics with the highest accuracy in weight drapery”. CLASS is also working with WeArt, a company exploring virtual tactility.

Accademia Costume & Moda has invited Giusy Bettoni and Matteo Lavezzo, CEO of denim company Project Officina Creativa, to talk about what it means to be sustainable. Titled Un-Sustainable, the talk will be aired on Teams video chat platform starting from 5.30pm.

On Thursday 23 at 5pm, Luca Olivini will interview the athletes of the Scott Racing Team Italia, who have teamed up with textile companies and yarns manufacturers to develop high-perfmorming bikers’ uniforms.

On Friday 24 at 4.30pm, Giusy Bettoni will talk with Stefania Ricci, director of the Museo Salvatore Ferragamo in Florence, which has recently announced a post-COVID-19 extension of the exhibition SUSTAINABLE THINKING. The exhibition - which has been co-curated by Giusy Bettoni as well - brings together art, design, fashion and technology.

On Wednesday 29 at 5pm, Giusy Bettoni dialogues with Evie Evangelou, founder and president of Fashion 4 Development, and with Jeanine Ballone, head of F4D Solutions. Fashion 4 Development is the United Nations-related entity offering a “supply chain of solutions to those who want to create positive and meaningful change”.

“In these difficult times, Smart Voices is a concert of voices reminding how, now more than ever, sustainability and responsibility and unity are indispensable,” said Ms Bettoni.
