Lycra: Asia a “key driver” in company’s global growth

Highlighting the launch of a fibre that takes on denim seam slippage, Lycra will be presenting a range of its technologies at Intertextile Shanghai as the company expresses expectations for strong growth in Asia.

“Asia is set to be the key driver for the Lycra company’s global growth,” said Steve Stewart, apparel vice president, Asia. “As such, we will continue our innovation journey by launching new technologies, such as the ones we are showcasing at Intertextile. Only by working closely with our partners and customers can we empower our customers to gain a winning edge and fully capture the opportunities offered by a new global economy.”

The denim seam slippage solution, called Anti-Slip fibre, is a patent-pending fibre designed for use in single core spandex fabrics that need both durable stretch and good recovery. It’s said to be versatile and applicable to a range of fabric developments and constructions, including open structures, polyester/viscose blends and cotton blends.

The company said that using the anti-slip fibre in the core of its dualFX technology yarn, the anti-slippage performance can be further enhanced, as it’s based on several of the company’s technologies related to both dual core and bi-component yarns.

Lycra will be showcasing the technology at Intertextile Shanghai, as well as the company’s MyFit fibre, EcoMade fibres and others.

The company acknowledged that the release comes at a difficult time for the industry. “Every industry is facing unprecedented challenges this year and the apparel industry is no exception,” said Julien Born, president of apparel for Lycra. “We have been pleased to see that, despite market uncertainties, there is still a strong appetite for innovation as brands look to keep an edge and offer better value to consumers.”
