Italian start-up aims to create new stream for denim waste
A nascent Italian company is working with fabric manufacturers to turn denim waste into packaging, retail fittings and acoustic panels.

Nazena, launched in 2019 and based in Vicenza, says companies can reduce waste disposal costs and improve life cycle analysis scores by supplying pre-consumer waste to be processed.

It is working with local factories in the textiles manufacturing hub of Triveneto to collect the waste, which is then processed in its headquarters.

The start-up is also in the process of setting up a “consumer community”, where customers can hand in their used clothes.

A spokesperson told us: “On the consumer side, we’re currently working with cooperatives, but we’re planning to collect used clothes directly from individuals or to start working with chain stores to set up disposal bins. We’re also developing our e-commerce site so individuals can send us used clothes and get a new product back.”

Nazena will exhibit as part of the WastEnders exhibition at Materials Village, part of Milan Design Week, September 4 to 10.
