E-commerce site launches upcycling lab
Veepee, an e-tailer based in Saint Denis, near Paris, has set up an upcycling lab that is tasked with finding new solutions for unsold goods. A long-time promoter of recycling through her own label Andrea Crews, Maroussia Rebecq has been named artistic director of the newly formed Upcycle Solution or US lab.

The designer and her team will sift through Veepee’s unsold goods as well as items collected on its resale platform, Re-cycle, to design new products in limited series or even one-offs. The company says its resale platform has collected 200,000 items since its launch in late 2020.

Upcycle Solution is another step in the same direction. “To team up with Veepee allows me to apply my creative system on a greater scale backed by an advanced technological infrastructure,” commented Maroussia Rebecq.

The US lab is housed in a 700 square-meter “re-creation” lab located at the company’s Digital Factory in la Plaine Saint Denis.

Veepee’s business model, since its launch in 2001 as vente-privée.com, has been to sell the excess and unsold stocks of fashion brands and retailers. It changed its name to Veepee in 2006 when it expanded to ten other countries and added new market segments to its offering. The company says it works with 7,000 brand partners, and sold €3.2 billion worth of goods to its 66 million members in 2021.
