Technical competition under way for denim-focused laundries in Brazil

09/09/2021

Two companies that are prominent in the denim industry in Brazil, jeans brand Santista and chemicals supplier Química Intensa, have joined forces to launch a second edition of a competition they call Blue Journey.

The partners have said the aim of the competition is to identify the best technology and the best technicians in the laundry sector that serves Brazil’s denim industry.

Around 80 laundries will receive two identical pairs of Santista jeans and, for testing purposes, a metre of the fabric from which the garments are made. They then have the task of using their skills, knowledge and equipment to produce attractive finished effects on the jeans. They must, however, only use sustainable practices.

Initial entries will come from all the parts of Brazil that specialise in industrial laundry services, the states of Fortaleza, Pernambuco, Goiânia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, São Paulo, Paraná and Santa Catarina. They have until mid-September to submit their entries.

A panel of judges will assess all of the entries for creativity, technical excellence and visual appeal and two laundries from each of the eight states will go through to the final of the competition, which will take place at the start of November.
