The denim community has bonds, a sense of camaraderie and a creative drive that are unique to the industry, according to long-time friends Miles Johnson (pictured), Malin Ekengren and Sue Barrett.
The respected designers and consultants let us listen in on their conversation about the current state of the industry, the big changes they have seen over the years and where they see things heading.
Of the change in working patterns and cancelled trade events over the pandemic, Miles says, “You go to fairs to look at fabrics but then we bump into everybody, you have conversations and a few laughs and you actually talk about the industry and where things are heading. You get so much information from those little sideline conversations.
“The denim industry was under so much scrutiny as being very environmentally damaging and so a lot of people have been working together on making massive seismic changes. That can only really come from having those kind of kickback conversations.”
