“We have been working on this project for the past 18 months,” says Andrea Duffi, denim consultant to Desert Studio.
The concept jeans presented on the company’s booth at Kingpins in Amsterdam were made in an organic cotton with Coreva stretch yarn, a plant-based elastic yarn, manufactured by Candiani. The sewing thread is 100% Tencel, and has been tested to withstand all washing processes, says Mr Duffi. The leather patch, made from production leftovers, has been tanned without chrome or heavy metals. The buttons are made in a bioplastic by Polive, which has been tested for biodegradability in soil and salt water, and compostability.
“Biodegradability is a big trend, and this product is designed to appeal to consumers looking to lighten their footprint. We have made sure that it ticks all the boxes,” says Mr Duffi.
