Epic Group adopts CleanKore technology
Epic Group, a denim garment manufacturer based in Hong Kong, has announced a strategic partnership with CleanKore, a US-based company that has developed a patented indigo-dyeing process. As its name implies, it keeps the core section of yarns undyed, as in traditional indigo dyeing, leading to significant savings in water, chemicals and process time at laundries.

Products currently undergoing tests by Epic Group and CleanKore have been shown to lead to up to 60% energy savings at fabric dyeing stage and 44% water savings in garment finishing. They also eliminated the need for potassium permanganate (PP) spray.

The two partners hope to scale up the adoption of CleanKore’s technology among Epic Group customers. They plan to produce 4 million pairs of jeans in the first year and reach 15 to 20 million items per annum in the next three years.

Epic Group chairman Ranjan Mahtani commented: “Sustainable products should be scalable – not niche, and we will rapidly scale up the adoption of this technology. CleanKore coupled with Epic Group’s advanced technologies such as laser and low-liquor ratio washing machines will create a new benchmark for sustainably manufactured denim.”
