New jeans manufacturing facility in the works

Following a memorandum of understanding signed last January, Hong Kong-based Epic Group and India-based Creative group have now announced the creation of a joint venture, Spectra, to increase garment manufacturing capacity in India. The first project is a denim & bottoms factory with a production capacity of 700,000 units per month. The two partners plan to make it a state-of-the-art facility and have made an initial investment of $15 million, with plans to bring this to $60 million (Rs 500 crores) in the future.

The joint venture will combine Epic Group’s manufacturing expertise, which has evolved from a textiles trading business to become a manufacturing powerhouse with facilities all over the world. Creative Group’s experience in garment manufacturing goes back five decades and covers vertical business interests in apparel, home textiles, polyester yarn, retail and outdoor. “Together, we aim to create value for our customers, partners and stakeholders, while contributing to India’s growth as a global hub for sustainable apparel manufacturing,” they stated.

The denim & bottoms site will be powered by renewable energy. Some 3,000 jobs could initially be created. The location of what could be the country’s largest jeans manufacturing site has not been announced.
