Textile Asia Karachi sees exhibitors from 30 nations

Biannual trade fair Textile Asia hosted its twenty-fourth edition in Karachi between March 10 and 12, with exhibitors from around 30 countries in attendance.

There was a strong Chinese presence at the event, participants noted, including several textile machinery manufacturers, chemical companies and raw material suppliers. A number of Turkey-based producers also notably made the trip, according to reports.

During the show, held at Karachi Expo Centre, local regional manager for the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 eco-label at Spanish textile industry research association Aitex, Arsalan Khan, shared that more than 700 export-oriented Pakistani denim, textile and garment manufacturers have already obtained the certification so far.

The industry has faced numerous supply challenges in recent months, however, leading to tensions that will likely only be compounded by recent data from All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA), which suggests that domestic textile exports declined by 28% year on year in February.

Textile Asia will next take place in Lahore in September. News of a Faisalabad edition is also expected “soon”.
