Denim mills fly the flag at TEXPO Pakistan
The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, inaugurated the fourth edition of Karachi-based TEXPO Pakistan 2023, a flagship event of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), the Ministry of Commerce and the Textile Industry Division.

TDAP claimed foreign buyers placed orders worth $500 million over the three days and that over 1,000 meetings were held, which would boost textile sector exports for years to come.

Abdul Wahab, marketing director of Siddiqsons, said the mill had expanded its denim fabric capacity from 2.6 million metres per month earlier this year to 3 million metres. It operates a 3.2MW solar power plant and an in-house water recycling facility. He commented there was insufficient capacity in the country to make denim jackets, which requires skilled labourers.

Aamir Chottani, CEO at Chottani Industries, highlighted to Inside Denim’s representative Japanese martial arts pieces made from denim waste, made in collaboration with a Japanese designer. The collection will be displayed at Berlin Art Fair. The Karachi-based factory has a monthly production capacity of 150,000 pieces and is constructing solar and water treatment plants.

Sarah Adnan of Garment Resources discussed plans to increase the production capacity of jeans from 35,000 pieces per month to 150,000 per month in the next five years.

Karachi-based Soorty Enterprises produces 8 million metres of denim fabric per month and claimed that roughly every 22nd jean imported into the US, Europe and UK is made by Soorty or uses Soorty fabrics.

Other major denim exhibitors included Interloop, Denim Crafts, Denim One, H.Sadar Ali Akhtar Ali and WE Apparel; and buyers attended from global brands and retailers including Target (US), Ikea (Sweden), KIK, C&A, Metro (Germany), LPP (Poland), Sinsay (Russia) and Boohoo (UK).
