The company announced that it had been named Pakistan’s “first” certified B Corporation early last summer. Only two months prior, the business revealed in April that it had become the first among its peers across Asia to successfully carry out a full cotton traceability pilot with forensic fibre verification specialist firm Oritain.
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Developed by the US Green Building Council, it is a system for assessing and rating the performance of buildings, such as factories, against various environmental impact criteria, including their design, materials, efficiency and waste management capabilities.
AGI attained gold-level LEED certification for its spinning mill in 2021 after initially doing so with its garment facilities, where 8 million articles are processed by 34 high-speed lasers every year, in 2016. In now receiving the same certification for its largely automated fabric unit, the company said that it had achieved its goal.
“This certification shows our commitment to circularity and how we will never settle for anything short of the best approaches for our people and for the planet,” commented the producer’s executive director, Hasan Javed. “Becoming end-to-end LEED certified during these difficult times has been a ray of hope for us.
“We are focused on tangible advances [towards] becoming net zero by 2040.”
