Lenzing celebrates first batch of China-made Tencel modal

Fibre producer Lenzing, headquartered in Austria, has announced that Chinese customers can now purchase locally manufactured Tencel-branded modal fibres, following the full conversion of a generic viscose production line at its Nanjing facility.

This marks the first time that domestically produced Tencel modal has been made available to China-based customers, Lenzing said. A launch event to inaugurate the new line, which has an annual capacity of 35,000 tonnes, took place earlier this month.

The factory, called Lenzing Nanjing Fibers, is now solely dedicated to the manufacture of “eco-friendly” speciality fibres, such as those from its Tencel range of wood-based cellulosic fibres, the group added. Lenzing expects the Nanjing site will run completely on electricity generated from renewable resources from sometime later this year.
