Denim field trip to Turkey for Better Cotton members
Sustainability initiative Better Cotton has announced a field trip for retail and brand members to Turkey in October.
The event will include visits to the Turkish provinces of Sanliurfa and Malatya, with sponsorship from Calik Denim, Calik Cotton and Gap Pazarlama.
Places are limited and a maximum of two people per company can take part, but brand members and retail members of Better Cotton can now register their interest in the trip. They will have to pay for travel and accommodation, but meals and local transportation will be provided.
On making the announcement, Better Cotton said the trip would give participants an opportunity to explore cotton production, ginning and other supply chain activities.
The programme starts on October 4 with a celebration of World Cotton Day, including panel discussions involving Turkish cotton industry leaders and farmers debating the future of cotton.
Key activities on October 5 will be visits to a farm and a ginner in Sanliurfa. On October 6, the programme will move to Malatya and offer what the organisers have called “the chance to see every stage of denim production closely”.
