Out with the old, in with the new at Target. The US-based retailer has announced its very first takeback programme for jeans. From August 4 to 10, customers can bring in up to five denim items. In exchange for this donation, they will be given 20% off new denim styles.

“With back-to-school and college shopping top of mind for families, we’re offering this 20% off Target Circle deal to make it even more affordable for our guests to refresh their denim wardrobes, while also doing our part to reduce waste and keep used denim out of landfills,” commented Gena Fox, senior vice president of merchandising for apparel and accessories.

Target sees high potential in this type of event. Its Car Seat Trade-in Programme, launched in 2016, has collected and diverted to recycling 2.6 million car seats, or roughly 18,000 tonnes of materials.
