Mud Jeans endorses EPR measures
Sustainable denim brand Mud Jeans has a long history of keeping materials in the loop through its leasing and takeback programmes. To help better understand the implications of an upcoming Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) policy for textiles in the EU, the Dutch brand is setting up an open question session on February 9, 2023.

This new legislation will make manufacturers responsible for collecting, recycling, reusing and disposing of all products they bring to the market. For the first time, the industry will be forced to re-think the end of life of the materials they use, the company said. This, in the light of data that suggest that globally, one garbage truck of textiles is landfilled or incinerated every second and less than 1% of material used to produce clothing is recycled into clothing again.

Mud Jeans takes responsibility by using only a small number of fabrics to make its collections and relying mainly on recycled and organic cotton.

Lea Landsberg, CSR Manager for Mud Jeans, commented: “It is fantastic that brands will soon be accountable for collecting and recycling their products. We have been taking back our old jeans, for free, since the start of our company. If the entire industry turns this way, it will be a big step towards a circular future.”
