Accelerating Circularity sets new goal
Accelerating Circularity, a non-profit dedicated to building a recycling infrastructure for textile waste has announced that it is joining the Clinton Global Initiative’s (CGI) Commitments to Action. Founded by President Bill Clinton in 2005, the organisation supports primarily action-driven, measurable projects and programmes. Since its launch, it has funded more than 4,000 ‘Commitments to Action’.

Accelerating Circularity is contributing with its own commitment to action, called ‘Building Circular Systems’, which officially launched at the annual meeting of the organisation held this Monday.

Three key areas of action are being targeted for the two-year project. To create market demand for recycled fibres, Accelerating Circularity will join forces with its partners in the US and Europe to recycle 325 tonnes of used textiles (roughly 150 tonnes of cotton, 100 tonnes of polyester and 75 tonnes of other fibres). It intends to pursue its work on precisely mapping the used textile sector to streamline recycling processes on the ground. Finally, it plans to create educational resources to help brands and consumers understand how to responsibly dispose of textiles.

In the next 18 months, the organisation said it would reach out to current and future partners that span brands, retailers and recyclers. “Our work, amplified by the Clinton Global Initiative, will help us make a difference by reducing waste and pollution and promoting sustainability worldwide,” commented Karla Magruder, president and founder of Accelerating Circularity.
