Museum pieces from G-Star-Rembrandt collaboration

Dutch denim brand G-Star Raw has announced an unusual collaboration. It has partnered with the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam to create and put on display a series of reproductions of an etching that Rembrandt created in 1639.
The museum is home to an almost-complete collection of etchings by the Golden Age artist. Among these is a work called ‘Self-Portrait, Leaning on a Balustrade’.
G-Star has used laser printing and artificial intelligence to make 24 versions of the etching on denim fabric and six of these have gone to the museum for showing alongside the real thing.
Chief executive of the brand, Rob Schilder, said G-Star had taken inspiration from Rembrandt’s use of different materials to recreate the etching “on an unexpected canvas”. The special collection will be on display at the museum from November 2 to January 5.
