Cotton production revised upwards as 2024-2025 season ends
Cotton industry information resource Cotlook has published its review of the global industry for the month of July.
It pointed out that the end of July marked the official end of the 2024-2025 cotton season and put world output at more than 26.1 million tonnes, an increase on the figure Cotlook anticipated in June. It put the increase down to “an addition for India”.
In also revised upward its figure for consumption for the 2024-2025, but by a smaller amount, putting the total at just under 25 million tonnes. Its estimated surplus for the season is, therefore, just under 1.2 million tonnes.
For the new 2025-2026 season, Cotlook’s initial estimate for production is just over 26 million tonnes. It said higher production figures for the US and Australia would be offset by a reduction in India.
It anticipates consumption for the new seasons at 24.8 million tonnes and a surplus of around 1.25 million tonnes.
