M&S invests in solar support for cotton farmers
M&S has launched an initiative to accelerate access to clean energy and strengthen biodiverse farming practices across cotton growing communities in India.
Working with Pilio, a “sustainability innovator”, the Clean Environment (ACE) cotton programme will unlock financing for both on-farm and off-farm solar technologies, helping reduce carbon emissions.
It will also introduce “nature-positive approaches” such as native plantings for wildlife and nature corridors connecting fields.
All cotton in M&S clothing is from Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), recycled or organic sources since 2019, and home textiles tracking are aiming for the same this year.
M&S claims to be the UK’s leading retailer of women’s denim, with an 18.5% share. It also says it has a 12.5% share of the UK’s men’s denim market.
