Prediction for cotton output-consumption gap narrows

08/10/2025

Cotton-sector information resource Cotton Outlook said in its September report that it expects global raw cotton output for the 2025-2026 season to reach 25.9 million tonnes.

This is down by 82,000 tonnes compared to earlier predictions.

Cotton Outlook said it had revised its forecasts upwards for China, India and the US, but that this had been “more than offset” by reductions in other countries.

It raised its forecast consumption figures for 2025-2026 to just over 25 million tonnes, narrowing the gap between output and consumption by 523,000 tonnes.
