ORTA x DB BERDAN collection pivots around hemp
London-based streetwear brand DB Berdan, the brainchild of Turkish designers Beg and Deniz Berdan, is using fabrics from Orta’s ‘ecomodern’ range for a new collection that “speaks to today’s society”.
The collection’s main fabric is Gen H, a hemp, but it also features reclaimed cotton waste and recycled denim.
The fabrics’ lifecycle assessments can be accessed by the consumer through hangtags on the garments.
The collection also features ORTA’s Halys fabric, which is coated with natural clay, giving brown-orange cast and a worn-in beige effect.
Dr Sedef Uncu Aki, head of R&D, planning and operations at Orta, said: “We are committed to a sustainable handprint that includes practices in the fight for climate action that are a circular ecosystem, using less resources while generating new ways to turn waste into net-positive, abundant resources. Our eco-innovation draws on nature’s design thinking with new technology, biological-engineering and creativity to create new possibilities for denim.”
ORTA x DB BERDAN collaboration styles made their debut at Fashion Weeks in London and New York.
