The advantage of regenerative agriculture is to maintain soil health and promote more sustainable farming practices, the company says. The blockchain-backed cotton used by the mill generates specially created digital tokens or coins, which Orta has called The Blueskyer NFT, in reference to its key concept for the season. Money raised through the NFT will be used to support farmers shifting to low impact practices.
True to its sustainable and digital vision, Orta has chosen Tezos as its blockchain platform and coin minter, a company that has developed a more sustainable digital network, based on a life cycle assessment (LCA) of its carbon footprint.
“At ORTA, we are building a regenerative platform, a systems transformation of our denim industry through provocative innovation, science-based design, open-source technology and collective action. Only then will we truly achieve a more optimistic and regenerative denim industry of tomorrow,” commented Orta director Dr Sedef Uncu Aki.
