01/06/2022
Due to take place annually moving forward, the gathering seeks to inspire urgent action on behalf of a sustainable and inclusive covid-19 recovery in the global fashion and lifestyle sector, the network stated. The UN’s seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be taken as something as a roadmap, with highlights to include discussions around tackling the climate crisis and promoting gender equality throughout the value chain.
“The convening will champion how the network is committed to keeping the promise of the SDGs and ensuring that everyone, everywhere can live in dignity, prosperity and peace on a safe and healthy planet,” explained network co-founder, Kerry Bannigan.
Industry figures from organisations including Calik Denim, The Lycra Company, Transformers Foundation, Textile Exchange, Messe Frankfurt, Tencel, Recover, People Tree and Queen of Raw are all billed to present during the event, in addition to speakers such as designer and Chloé creative director, Gabriela Hearst, plus fellow designers Mara Hoffman and Christopher Raeburn.
“Right now, there is incredible momentum for change in the fashion industry around sustainability, especially in support of the SDGs. To be able to gather with industry leaders and discuss achievements, challenges and future goals is inspiring and reinvigorating,” commented Tricia Carey, director of business development for denim and Americas at Lenzing, the group behind the Tencel brand of fibres.
