Spearheaded by local non-profit Pakistan Environment Trust (PET), Net Zero Pakistan is an alliance of prominent textile, apparel and consumer goods firms committed to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050.
The session held by AM formed the first in a series of monthly town hall-style meetings designed to facilitate top-level dialogue around concerted industrial solutions to mitigating the impact of climate change on both consumers and manufacturers based in the country.
Led by management consultant Memosh Khawaja, the workshop enabled joint exploration of methods for managing emissions driven by real data and computer simulation, and also involved roundtable discussions modelled after multi-stakeholder summits held by the United Nations.
AM’s head of sustainability and communications, Syeda Faiza Jamil, commented afterwards: “In addition to providing a good opportunity for experiential learning, we wanted this workshop to emphasise the collaborative approach our industry needs to take to effectively address the climate crisis.”
Executive director at PET, Talha Khan, echoed Ms Jamil’s sentiment: “We need to think of collaboration first, instead of competition. We need all hands on deck for this one and I am sure that other sectors will be quick to follow the example being set by Net Zero Pakistan members.”
