Both hope to realise their vision by implementing capacity-building initiatives intended to foster positive change when it comes to potential areas of contention, including gender-related workplace harassment and redressal, plus gender-responsive procurement.
“Women’s economic empowerment cannot be achieved without the engagement of the private sector,” commented UN Women Pakistan country representative, Sharmeela Rassool (pictured, third from right). “We are committed to providing Nishat Apparel with our technical expertise, while at the same time learning from their expertise to improve our programmatic interventions further.”
On behalf of the Punjab firm, its business head, Wajeeha Khalid, described its commitment to creating a work environment “based on merit, inclusion and diversity”, especially as this relates to the United Nations (UN)'s sustainable development goal number five, the goal of gender equality.
Nishat Apparel is also a signatory of the Women’s Empowerment Principles, jointly promulgated by UN Women and the UN Global Compact, which itself asks business leaders worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies.
