Hong Kong can be denim educational hotspot

Industry veteran David Tring, who retired from Lee Jeans earlier this year, has said he believes Hong Kong can become “an educational hotspot for denim”.

On taking early retirement, Mr Tring, who also worked for Wrangler, H&M, C&A and others during his career, set up a consultancy called The Magic of Denim. He recently told fibre group Lenzing that he had devoted a substantial amount of time since then supporting the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) as a visiting fellow, with a strong focus on all things related to denim.

He told Lenzing’s Carved in Denim blog: “The HKDI is a vocational university and already has a good connection with industry, with companies like Advance Denim, Crystal, Levi and Lenzing. I want to build on that and help make Hong Kong an educational hotspot for the denim industry.”
