Koch sees value in licensing Ioniqa's rPET method

Eindhoven University of Technology spin-off Ioniqa is to receive investment of up to €30 million from Wichita-based technology licencing firm Koch Technology Solutions (KTS), part of Koch Industries subsidiary Koch Engineered Solutions.

A developer of proprietary chemical recycling technology which enables low-grade post-consumer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polyester to be recycled infinitely, Ioniqa’s process has been validated at scale in a 10KTA depolymerisation plant in the Netherlands.

Founder and chief executive at the Dutch enterprise, Tonnis Hooghoudt, said that the newly forged partnership would serve as a major steppingstone towards commercialisation for Ioniqa. The company last raised €10 million in fresh funding back in 2021.

“Our expertise in breaking down plastic waste into virgin-like monomers matches seamlessly with KTS’ track record in designing and licencing PET production processes worldwide,” Mr Hooghoudt commented. “We believe that together we can meet the strong market demand for recycled PET (rPET) materials by jointly providing licences.”
