Renasens, a Swedish start-up founded by Dr Jade Bouledijouidja is one of the five finalists of the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) Innovation Challenge for 2024. Based in Bonn, ISC3 is part of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), a sustainable development agency for the German government.

Dr Bouledijouidja has developed a patent-pending waterless process that can extract fibres, dyes and additives from mixed textiles. It has been proven on a laboratory scale at the Swedish Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. The technology is said to remove dyes and additives from pure and mixed textiles and separate blends such as polycotton without degrading the quality and properties of the fibres. “With our technology, we can achieve the goal of using 80-90% recycled fibres in new garments and thus boost the circular economy in the fashion industry,” she said.

Renasens will be presenting its green chemistry solution at the upcoming Impact Festival, a sustainable innovation event that takes place on October 30 and 31, at Messe Frankfurt.
