Brazil wants more cotton growers

The president of the industry body for Brazilian cotton producers, Abrapa, Alexandre Schenkel, visited growers in São Paulo state and said afterwards that preparations for the harvest of the 2022-2023 crop were going well.

São Paulo will be the first of Brazil’s nine cotton-growing states to harvest the new crop, beginning in May. Growers there sowed cotton on 9,000 hectares of land for this season and hope to harvest 12,000 tonnes of fibre.

“Growers here plant and harvest earlier than their counterparts in other states,” Mr Schenkel said during the visit. “Things are already at an advanced stage in São Paulo.”

He said Abrapa wanted to attract more farmers to cotton-growing in São Paulo and in other parts of the country.
